Baby and Toddler Activities

There are plenty of opportunities for children to learn new language and communicate with each other as we have small group focussed activities which involve story sacks, rhyme time and sharing toys.

Every day, both the toddlers and babies participate in Music Playtime, which all of the staff have been trained to deliver by our qualified music teacher, Mary who also visits us once a week.

Heuristic Play and Treasure Baskets –

allows babies to use all their senses to explore the tactile objects. As they get older they want to find out more about them and what can be done with them – the possibilities are endless and as individual as each child.

Tummy time –

we are passionate that our babies are given the space and opportunities to have quality floor time to explore their bodies and develop important motor skills in their own time. Babies have their own room which is separate from the Toddlers and gives them the freedom to do this. Toddlers also have their own space for physical activities, giving them the opportunity to be more active indoors if the weather isn’t suitable for outdoors.

Story time, singing and rhymes -

Throughout the day the children spend time in small groups, sharing  books, singing action songs and saying popular rhymes together. This is a cosy, fun time with lots of repetition for developing the children’s listening and language skills and the children soon decide on their own personal favourites.

Messy Play -

Babies and Toddlers share a space for painting, play dough, sticking , sand and water play and a whole variety of messy activities that are on offer each day. The emphasis is on exploring and experimenting and has little to do with the end product although they do produce some master pieces!

Outdoor Play –

The babies and toddlers have a separate garden to the older children and have French doors leading out to it from their rooms for easy access. Children are able to free flow between the indoor and outdoor area as the doors are often open to allow this (weather permitting)!

All areas of the curriculum are covered outside and it is a lovely space to introduce the children to the natural world. We also have some under cover areas to protect us from the elements and allowing us to use the area most of the time.
